1 Work Out to Avoid Burnout at Work

Regular exercise can prevent depression and burnout in the workplace, says Dr. Sharon Toker, Tel Aviv U, who found that exercising employees were less likely to experience a deterioration in their mental health. The research indicates that exercising for 4 hours/week is optimum to avoid depression and burnout. It also shows that, while depression and burnout are not the same, they are connected in that an increase in depression predicts an increase in burnout and vice versa. In fact, for study participants who engaged in 240 minutes of physical activity that increased heart rate and brought on a sweat, the impact of burnout and depression was almost nonexistent. In addition, exercising for as little as 150 minutes/week had a positive effect on mental health, the study found.

Pick the Fruit Instead of Juice

2 Citrus May Help Lower Stroke Risk for Women

Eating plenty of citrus fruits could help women lower their risk of stroke, suggest researchers. The 14-year study, published in April in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association, found that women who consumed the most citrus fruit had a 19 percent reduced risk of experiencing an ischemic stroke compared with women who ate the least amount of citrus fruits. Researchers say that flavanones, a subgroup of flavaonoids, are linked with the lowered stroke risk for women who eat plenty of oranges, grapefruits and other citrus fruits. It's believed that flavanones help improve blood vessel health and counter inflammation. MSNBC reports that even though citrus juices contain flavanones, researchers recommend eating the fruit instead since juices may contain too much sugar.
