One Tylenol Is to Much for Teens

1 Teen Tylenol Use May Lead To Asthma Problems

Epidemiologist Richard Beasley, Director of the Medical Research Institute in Wellington, New Zealand, has published a study in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine suggesting that teens taking just one acetaminophen pill, more commonly known as Tylenol in a one year period are more susceptible to asthma related issues. The study currently in stage 3 of 4 testing, examined 322,000 teenagers in 50 countries from 113 different medical centers. The study has found that teens who take just one pill in one year are 43 percent more likely to have asthma, while once a month use increases those risks 2.5 times. According to the study, "Acetaminophen use may represent an important risk factor for the development and/or maintenance of asthma..."

Weight Loss Simple As Water

2 Water Before Meal Helps with Weight Loss

Having two 8-ounce glasses of water before eating each meal may help you lose weight, say researchers from Virginia Tech. According to new research presented today at a meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston, dieters who drank two glasses of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner lost about five more pounds that dieters who didn't drink water before eating. The water drinkers also kept more weight off after one year, reports CBS News. The study participants were middle-aged or older, spanning from 55 to 75 years old. They were also on a low-calorie diet, but only half of them drank water before eating. In three months, the participants who drank water lost an average of around 15.5 pounds, and people who didn't consume the water before eating lost only 11 pounds.

1,300 Sickened from Egg Recall

3 Worried Consumers Buying Eggs from Farmers Markets

As the egg recall continues to expand, more consumers are flocking to farmers markets to purchase their eggs, reports MSNBC. Due to the salmonella outbreak which has sickened at least 1,300 people, farmers markets saw a spike in eggs sales over the weekend with some farmers selling out of eggs. More than 550 million grocery store eggs, tied to two industrial egg producers, have been recalled so far. Elizabeth Howe, the regional manager of the Pacific Coast Farmer’s Market Association, told MSNBC that shoppers lined up from opening until farmers sold out at eggs stalls at a market in San Francisco this weekend. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration thinks it could take months to finish up their investigation, which is centering on Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms, both in Iowa.

Fiery Mouth Year After Year

4 Burning Mouth Syndrome Strikes Women

Burning Mouth Syndrome is just as it sounds, but thankfully the mouth doesn't really burn! Women who suffer from the syndrome have a persistent feeling of "heated, chronic pain" that affects the tongue, roof of mouth, gums, lips and cheeks, reports MSNBC. Nadia Cwiach, who was interviewed by MSNBC, said that for more than two years her mouth has felt like "a blazing book of matches while swigging a nice toasty glass of gasoline." The problem is believed to be related to hormones. Mostly just postmenopausal women suffer from the syndrome, which may last around seven years. MSNBC says that around four percent of U.S. adults, primarily women 50 and older, suffer from Burning Mouth Syndrome. While women with the syndrome usually have normal-looking mouths, some women may lose muscle mass.

Counters Osmotic Stress

5 Ginger May Prevent Diabetic Cataracts

Ginger, often called ginger root but actually a rhizome, may prevent the development of diabetic cataracts according to a new animal study published in the journal Molecular Vision. Researchers from the National Institute of Nutrition in India studied the effect of Zingiber officinalis in diabetic rats. After receiving a daily dose of ginger in their diets for two months, the animals showed delayed onset and progression of cataract. Molecular analysis found that the ginger significantly inhibited the formation of AGE (advanced glycation end products) in the eye lens. These play a key role in many diabetic pathophysiologies, including nephropathy and neuropathy. Ginger also helped counter hyperglycemia-induced osmotic stress in the eye.
